HISTORY

The Manvel Volunteer Fire Department, nestled in the rapidly expanding city of Manvel, Texas, stands as a steadfast guardian just 20 miles southwest of the bustling metropolis of Houston. Situated in the northern reaches of Brazoria County, this esteemed department traces its roots back to April 1953. In its early days, it dutifully served a predominantly rural and agricultural community.

Founder Jimmy DelBello Sr

First Manvel VFD Fire Apparatus

When it was founded in 1953, the department had no equipment and little money. An old oil field truck donated by Manvel Oil Field was converted into a water tank truck that became the first Manvel VFD fire apparatus. Because there was no station to store the truck, the tanker was housed in an open barn of one of the founding members. Over years of dedication from volunteers and donations from the good people of our community, Manvel Volunteer Fire Department thrived as a staple emergency service in the region.

Today, the Manvel Volunteer Fire Department operates as a versatile combination volunteer and paid department. Comprising a dedicated team of volunteers and paid firefighters, this exceptional force ensures round-the-clock readiness to protect the lives and property of its community. Paid firefighters are scheduled on shifts of varying durations—10, 14, or 24 hours—with the remainder of their time marked by vigilant on-call status.

Over the years, the Manvel Volunteer Fire Department has evolved and expanded to meet the growing demands of its community. The original station facility boasts a burn and smoke structure, a roof ventilation prop, and an elevated wooden structure tailored for ladder training. It serves as the crucible where the department's dedicated personnel hone their skills and refine their expertise, ensuring the highest level of preparedness and proficiency.

In the ever-evolving landscape of Manvel, the Manvel Volunteer Fire Department remains a steadfast pillar of safety and protection, continually adapting and expanding to meet the dynamic needs of its vibrant community.
