Becoming a volunteer firefighter is a challenging and rewarding way to serve your community, gain work experience, and start a career path in the fire service. There are a number of ways to serve your community and the Manvel Volunteer Fire Department has volunteer opportunities for you. Send completed applications along with supporting documentation to apply@manvelfire.org or bring printed documentation to Station 1. Blank applications can also be retrieved at Station 1.

 

Entrance Requirements:

 

A. Prerequisites to apply for membership:

1. An applicant must be in good health both mentally and physically.

2. Must be of excellent character.

3. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License and have a good driving record.

4. Applicant must be between the ages of 18 and 55 with the exception of persons with experience which are handled on a case by case basis. 

 

B. Applicant Procedure:

1. A committee of 3 Department members makes up the Application Investigation Committee (AIC). Members of this committee are appointed by the Chief and hold committee membership for a period of one year.

2. Applications may be downloaded or picked up at Station 1.

3. A completed application must be given to a member of the AIC or emailed to apply@manvelfire.org.

4. The Application Committee may accept applications on behalf of the department.

5. Accepted applicants will then be subject to a background check.

6. Upon completing investigation the AIC will submit a written report.

7. Accepted applications will then be voted on and require a 2/3 majority to place an applicant as a probationary member.

8. Applicants will be required to attend all training meetings once their application is accepted. Applicants shall not participate in any other fire department activities until voted in as a probationary member. Applicants who show up on an emergency scene prior to being placed on probationary status will have their application withdrawn from consideration. There shall be no exceptions to this.
